All about the Kune Falls, Lonavala

Located in the middle of the Sahyadri Mountains at 622 metres, this impressive waterfall is a three-tiered fall cascading down from 200 metres.

The waterfalls in the valleys of Lonavala and Khandala are known to have quite massive heights. Still, the Kune waterfall is even higher, making it the 14th-highest waterfall in the country and the highest waterfall in Lonavala.

This waterfall is named after a village called Kune, situated at the top of the plateau near the waterfalls.

Kune Falls receives its waters from numerous sources, such as Tungarli Lake, Lonavala Lake, etc. It also marks the starting point of the mighty Ulhas River.

The nearby Kune Church serves as a convenient landmark for locating the falls.

The valley comes to life during the monsoons with a series of waterfalls throughout the mountain. During this time, Kune Falls is particularly enchanting, drawing in crowds of tourists to witness its impressive flow.

At this time, the waterfall is hidden between the dense shroud of clouds, leaving a sight worth seeing.

The fall is so huge, the sounds of which can be heard even at the furthest point of the plateau. Kune Falls are cascading waterfalls and fall in three tiers, with the upper tier being the highest, dropping at 100 m.

The waterfall's base can be reached through dense jungle and rocky sections. Still, the main waterfall is inaccessible during heavy rains due to local police blocking access when approaching the shower.

The plateau grounds are quite vast and covered in thick vegetation with deep unknown water pockets. However, most grounds are under private property due to commercialisation in Lonavala.

The upper tier of Kune Falls is the most voluminous and, therefore, the most dangerous and deadly, while the second tier is equally dangerous and features a steep fall.

Bathing and swimming in the clear waters are popular activities, and the stream continues flowing long after the monsoon season.
